For non-Japanese viewers: The 3-3-7 beat (三三七拍子, San-San-Nana Byōshi) is a traditional Japanese rhythmic pattern. It's commonly used for clapping, cheering at sports games, and even in school events. As we’ve been doing this since grade school, it feels very familiar to us. Interestingly, in Japanese, we use the word Byōshi (拍子) for both this clapping rhythm and musical time signatures. But I never realized until now… in a musical sense, the 3-3-7 beat is actually just a 4-beat!
